Cheap motels are often stereotyped as being creepy places to stay the night – and one woman has found out why.
Addison Cassel, @addisoncassel, posted a video on TikTok in which she explained she was laying on her bed in an unnamed motel when she noticed a cut in the carpet just under the bed.
She said she got on the floor with her grandmother and lifted up the piece of fabric to find a wooden board, and when they lifted that up as well, they were shocked by what they saw.
Underneath the bed seemed to be a hidden room, which was completely dark and empty except for several cobwebs.
Addison wrote in her clip: “I was on my motel bed and I noticed a cut out in the floor.
“Me and my grandma got it open – there was two layers covering it.
“There’s a room under our room! It’s a one story motel.”
The woman then posted a part two in which she stuck her phone down the gap into the room – which is actually just a crawl space.
The second clip shows there’s nothing to be frightened of inside the empty space, and the dust and cobwebs building up inside prove the space hasn’t been used by anybody in a long time.
And in another video, Addison answered several questions she’d received since her clips were posted.
The woman said she phoned the motel after she’d left to ask them if they had any more information about the space – but they were weirdly secretive about it.
She explained: “I called today and the lady that picked up was really rude to me.
“I asked her, I was like, ‘Hey I stayed in this room number and there was a crawl space underneath the bed. I’m pretty sure it was a crawl space – could you tell me anything about it?’
“And she just kept asking me why I wanted to know. She asked me 11 times before she said anything, and then she was like, ‘It’s just for pipes. Have a good day.’
“Why was she being so secretive about it? All I did was ask.”
Addison’s videos have over 14 million views, and viewers couldn’t help but think up scary scenarios for what might be lurking in the space under the bed.
One person wrote: “I watched a movie once about a psycho motel owner that had underground tunnels to each room, and he’d butcher them in their sleep.”
While another said: “I watched an episode of Criminal Minds once where a stalker did that and stayed under her bed for months to video tape everything that went on in her bed.”
And a third added: “Okay well you know what’s in crawl spaces? Bodies. Bodies are in crawl spaces. I watch too many movies.”
But others were unimpressed by the videos, insisting there was nothing to fear.
Someone posted: “Have you never seen a crawl space before?”
And another wrote: “It’s most likely just an access panel for the maintenance people in order for them to have easy access to the plumbing and stuff underneath.”
